FIFA NORMALISATION COMMITTEE APPOINTED FOR TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO!

It has only been three months into the Trinidad & Tobago’s new regime and the world governing body FIFA has put it all to a stop. The newly elected president William Wallace and his respective associates now have to step aside as FIFA appoints a normalization committee.

In an officially released statement from FIFA.com, the following was stated:

“The Bureau of the FIFA Council has today decided to appoint a normalisation committee for the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) in accordance with art. 8 par. 2 of the FIFA Statutes.” – FIFA.com

Many are asking what exactly is a normalisation committee and why is it needed. Once again as taken directly from the official FIFA website, the following specifics about the mandate was stated.

  • to run the TTFA’S daily affairs;
  • to establish a debt repayment plan that is implementable by the TTFA;
  • to review and amend the TTFA Statutes (and other regulations where necessary) and to ensure their compliance with the FIFA Statutes and requirements before duly submitting them for approval to the TTFA Congress;
  • to organise and to conduct elections of a new TTFA Executive Committee for a four-year mandate.

The normalisation committee will be composed of an adequate number of members to be identified by the FIFA administration, in consultation with Concacaf. In line with the FIFA Governance Regulations, all members of the normalisation committee will be subject to an eligibility check.

The normalisation committee will act as an electoral committee, and none of its members will be eligible for any of the open positions in the TTFA elections under any circumstances. The specified period of time during which the normalisation committee will perform its functions will expire as soon as it has fulfilled all of its assigned tasks, but no later than 24 months after its members have been officially appointed by FIFA.

The questions have been coming in thick and fast about how this intervening by FIFA will affect everyone involved How will this affect the coaching appointments and its implications on football development are just a few of many questions that are being asked by everyone. William Wallace has indicated he was shocked by this and said that he will give a statement at a later time.

For fans of the game, this is a confusing time, many were disenchanted by the corruption and lack of progress in recent times. The interest in national football is at an all-time low, for many this was seen as a new dawn but now uncertainty rears its head and in time we will see the outcome of the normalization.
